Vernon Dexter McConnell, lovingly known as "Dee,"' "DeeDee," Dad, and Grandpa, passed away on April 28, 2026. Born on February 15 1963 in Syracuse New York. Vernon will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends throughout his life.
Vernon was predeceased by his mother, Mary Alice Arquette McConnell; his father, Henry "Hank" Romaine McConnell; his sister, Linda McConnell; and his niece, Elaine McConnell
A hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to concrete and construction work. He loved painting and Vernon took pride in his work ethic and in providing for the people he loved. Proud of his Mohawk Native American and Irish heritage, he carried himself with resilience, heart, and a strong sense of family, tradition, and identity
Vernon was a devoted father, grandfather proud uncle, family member, and friend. He found his greatest joy in his children: sons, Jay McConnell, Henry "Hank" McConnell, William McConnell and daughter Hilary McConnell. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Zachary, Sierra, Evan, Julianne, Chase Legend, and Silas, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Vernon will be remembered for his warm smile, his easygoing nature, and his ability to make friends anywhere he went. He had a natural way of connecting with people leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He is survived by his siblings: Daniel McConnell, Henry "Hank" McConnell, William “Billy” McConnell, Lisa McConnell and Leslie McConnell, along with many nieces, nephews extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Though he will be greatly missed, Vernon's legacy of love, kindness, and friendship will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4-6pm on Monday May 11, 2026 at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home.
