September 13, 1956 – October 2, 2022
Thomas E. Clarke, 66, of Syracuse, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at SUNY Upstate Neuro ICU; with the love and support of family by his side. Tom was born in Syracuse, NY; son of the late Louise Roskopf and Thomas Clarke. He graduated from Corcoran High School and Onondaga Community College. Tom was proudest of his three beautiful daughters, Abigail, Haley and Madison; and his 39 year career with the Syracuse Fire Department, where he achieved the rank of Deputy Chief. During his career he was honored with many awards to include the the Fire Chief's Medal (2014), Fire Chief's Medal (2015), Fire Chief's Medal (2017), SFD Mayor's Achievement Award.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Cowin Clarke; daughters, Abigail, Haley and Madison, sisters, Mary Lou Lander, Kelly Curtis, Patricia (Jamie) Artessa, Theresa (Richard) LaMarre; Brothers, Mark, James and Michael. Brother-in-laws, Tim (Sue) Cowin, John (Darlene Kerr) Cowin; sister-in-laws, Judy (Clifford) Landherr and Patricia (Michael) Wojenski. And, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Emily, and sister, Amy.
Calling Hours will be Friday, October 7th from 5-7pm at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave, Syracuse, NY 13219. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 8th at 9am, Holy family Church, 127 Chapel Drive, Syracuse, NY. Burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan, NY.
A college education fund for Tom's children has been set up, in lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that any donations be made to the Syracuse Fire Department FCU - Clarke Education Fund through the Syracuse Fire Department FCU, 211 Wilkinson St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
The family would like to thank the staff within the SUNY Upstate Neuro ICU - 9E for their compassion and loving care provided to Tom and his family.
