Obituary

Sally Anne (Kerlin) Ennis passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, one week shy of her 96th birthday.

A lifelong member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Sally was proud to be the first baby girl baptized there after her father helped build it. She attended Most Holy Rosary School before graduating from Solvay High School and worked briefly at Marble Farms Dairy and the former New York Telephone Company. For several decades, she served as a Poll Worker for the Onondaga County Board of Elections.

In 1950, Sally wed the love of her life, Donald R. Ennis. Together they raised six children in their Westvale home, sharing countless adventures across the state, country, and world during their 54 years of marriage, until Donald's passing in 2004.

Sally was also preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah Ide Conde Kerlin; siblings, Ronn Kerlin, Marion Kerlin Forken, Patricia Kerlin Kilpatrick, James Kerlin, Jr., Joseph Kerlin, and Charles Kerlin; and daughters-in-law, Kathy Nolan Ennis and Andrea Fleming Ennis.

Sally is survived by her children, Nancy Ennis (Wayne) Baker, Donald Ennis, Jr. (Carole Trembley), John Ennis, James Ennis (Sandra Winkworth), Thom (Lisa) Ennis, and Timothy Ennis (Teresa Ahern); grandchildren, Jill Ennis (Matthew Gaalswyk), Jeremy (Ali) Ennis, Jeffrey Ennis (Andrea Cornell), Eric (Whitney) Ennis, Corey Ennis, and Danielle (Jason) Wild; great-grandchildren, Hayden Ennis, Landon Ennis, Johnny Wild, and Max Wild; sister, Theresa "Joan" Kerlin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Known for her generous heart, robust laugh, deep alto singing voice, and steadfast commitment to her community, Sally was always ready to support family and friends in times of need. She volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Troop Leader, and member of the St. Charles Altar & Rosary Society, and in her final act of giving, she donated her body to science through the Upstate Anatomical Gift Program.

Her family is grateful to the staff of Brookdale Bellevue Senior Living & Memory Care for keeping Sally in good health and spirits over the past eight years, and to the nurses of 4 West and the Palliative Care team at Upstate Community Hospital for their compassion in her final weeks.

Calling hours will be held Monday, August 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 19, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
