Obituary

Robert Pallo, 73, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 18, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters.

Bob "Moon" was a lifelong resident of Tipp Hill. As an adolescent, his father, “the 7-Up man,” would take Bob on his morning deliveries, leaving Bob’s afternoons free to play golf at Burnet Park and caddy at Bellevue Country Club. He worked at the 7-Up bottling plant throughout high school, enabling him to purchase his first car, a ’66 Valiant Slant 6. He graduated from Bishop Ludden, where he developed lifelong friendships with many of his classmates. His early work ethic led him to attend Gannon University to study political science, and his 30-year employment at New Process Gear, which instilled in him an appreciation for American-made goods.

He and his wife of 49 years, Joanne, raised four daughters. He was extremely proud of his girls and passed on to them his love and knowledge of music. His ability to choose a song to fit the mood of the occasion was uncanny and one of his many gifts. He often said, “Music keeps me together.”

Bob loved the game of golf, sitting on his front porch, and spending time at his camp on Crystal Lake. He embraced his Slovak heritage by celebrating and passing along family traditions, such as making kielbasa, mushroom soup, and pierogies on holidays. Bob enjoyed walking through Burnet Park and tipping back Heinekens with family and friends at neighborhood pubs.

Though he could sometimes have a gruff demeanor, especially related to topics he was passionate about, he was a sensitive man who felt and loved deeply. He was a steadfast supporter of his daughters, and his unwavering encouragement guided them to be confident and independent women. His grandchildren, who called him Grandpa Moon, were his pride and joy. He adored them all and lit up when they spent time together.

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Theresa, and his sister, Janice Ryan. He is survived by his wife, Joanne (Meyers), daughters, and their husbands: Emily O’Connor (Joseph), Beth Golshir (Jonathon), Sarah Pallo (Brian Tompkins), Laura Pallo (Ryan Snyder), and four grandchildren, Nora, Eliza, Vivian and Arlo.

Bob’s family would like to thank the community of family, friends and caregivers who supported him throughout his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Music for the Mission (musicforthemission.org) in Bob’s memory, an organization that assists and advocates for the homeless and the hungry of Central New York.
