Obituary

On November 19, 2024 Richard (Dick) Gaffney of Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully at home.



Dick was born to parents; James and Louise Gaffney in Utica, NY on February 22, 1927. He spent his early years in Utica and attended high school in Chadwicks, NY. He had fond memories of Chadwicks and the Sauquoit Valley. Dick enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II. After his service he graduated from Utica College. Dick met his future wife, Clare Elizabeth Cosgrove and married in 1951. Dick worked for many years at the Texaco Plant in Syracuse and later worked at Carrier Corporation. He was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church for over fifty years and spent time volunteering at the church's food pantry and funeral guild.



Dick is predeceased by his wife, Clare, sister, Patricia, brother, Wayne and daughter-in-law Mary. Survivors include daughters Anne, Maureen (Walter Groginski), and sons, Paul, James (Ann), Brian (Debbie) Gaffney. Brother, Kevin Gaffney. Grandchildren Patrick, Daniel (Leah), Aiden, Grace Gaffney, and Rick Proffitt (Stephanie). Great-grandchildren, Regan, Rhodes, Evelyn and Francis Gaffney.



The Family would like to thank Dr. Schoeneck of Family Care Medical Group in Camillus, and Beth, a caretaker with Nascentia.



Calling hours are Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Westvale from 11-12pm with the funeral following at 12pm. Burial will be in Veterans Cemetery.



Donations may be given to the Food Pantry at St. Charles-St. Anns, 501 S Orchard Road, Syracuse, NY 13219.
