Obituary

Paul Andrew Corbett, of Marietta, New York, passed away on October 20, 2026, at the age of 86, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Paul was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, by John A. Corbett Sr. and Gladys (Sweeney) Corbett. He was the youngest of the Corbett boys, affectionately known as "Bruce the Caboose" to his brothers Charles, John, James, and Michael.

Paul was a proud graduate of Nottingham High School before enlisting in the United States Army. He dedicated much of his life to serving his country and community. During his military career, he served in the Military Police and received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. His service included assignments throughout Europe, Alaska, and at Seneca Army Depot.

Following his military service, Paul continued a distinguished career in law enforcement and public safety. He served as a deputy sheriff with the Seneca County Sheriff's Department before becoming Chief of Police for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Police and Security Services in Syracuse, retiring in 2001.

Paul was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Skaneateles, New York.

Paul took great pride in his Irish heritage and had a deep love for his family. He was a natural storyteller who always had a story to share or a joke to tell. Whether reminiscing about years gone by or making someone laugh, Paul loved connecting with people through his stories and humor. His laughter, stories, and love for his family will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Paul is survived by his wife, Julie; his daughters, Kaitlin (Jennie Fountain) Corcoran and Iris (Ted) Buczkowski; and Julie's daughter, Heather Corbett (Brian Laroway), and their son, JP. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, and his infant daughter, Christine.

Paul's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ashley Campbell, Lynne Carey NP, and the nurses, physicians, and entire care teams at Upstate Geriatrics and Upstate Community Hospital's GEM and 4 North units for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Paul and his family, especially during his final days.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Skaneateles, NY. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., with a light brunch in honor of Paul's beloved church coffee hour available during that time. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery following the service. All who wish to attend are welcome.

Arrangements are entrusted to Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home in Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Paul’s honor to Clear Path for Veterans in Central New York (www.clearpath4vets.com) or the Central New York SPCA (www.cnyspca.org), reflecting his dedication to veterans and his lifelong love of animals.
