Obituary

Patricia Ann Brown, 65, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Jeffrey Brown; her parents, Donald and Virginia Cogswell; and her stepson, Jacob Brown. She is survived by her brother, Donald (Anita) Cogswell Jr.; her sister, Colleen Williams; and her brother, Michael (Karen) Cogswell. She is also survived by her two daughters, Ashley (Brian) Montanaro and Molly Brown; her stepdaughters, Jeanine (Scott) Antonacci, Emiliegh (John) Brown-Gallo, and Mary Brown; her thirteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.

Born on March 28, 1961, in Syracuse, NY, Patricia was the youngest of four children and grew up in a close-knit household on Belle Avenue. Her parents lovingly nicknamed her “Iodine,” a term of endearment that stayed with her. She loved cheering on her father as he coached the Valley Pythons Pop Warner football team and working alongside her beloved mother as a banquet waitress at the Hotel Syracuse.

Patricia was an avid animal lover, especially when it came to dogs. One of her first and most cherished was Honeybear, whom she would dress up and take sledding. In the days before leash laws, Honeybear had the run of the town and became somewhat infamous around the Valley. When it was time to come home, Patricia would call out for him, and the loyal companion that he was, would happily return. Throughout her life, Patricia had many adored pets who brought her tremendous joy and comfort.

As a teenager, Patricia spent much of her time with close friends, including one of her dearest, Wanda, who was like a sister to her. It was during those years that her lifelong love of music really took hold. She attended concerts and developed a particularly deep love for famous musician, Bob Seger. She also loved Stevie Nicks, Rickie Lee Jones, the Eagles, Cher, Van Morrison and many more. Music remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.

In her early twenties, Patricia met the man who took her breath away with his handsome good looks, witty sense of humor, and well-known Elvis hairstyle and matching sideburns. Together, she and Jeffrey built their family, raising their two daughters, nine years apart, on Tipperary Hill.

Patricia always knew how to make a house feel like a home. She had an eye for beautiful décor and filled our home with delicious, comforting meals. She was known for her potato salad, chicken noodle soup, orange-glazed pork chops, and peanut butter pie. She had a special way of making holidays feel magical and memorable, even during the years when there wasn’t a lot of money to spare. Throughout her working life, Patricia held various management positions in retail and especially enjoyed design consulting, where her natural creativity and sense of style could shine.

She loved to dance and she passed along a great love for all genres of music and for a good chick flick—favorites included Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Immediate Family. She had an undeniable flair and a style that was uniquely her own. You could rarely find her without beautifully done hair, perfectly polished nails or her signature burgundy lipstick.

With her passing, both of our parents are now gone, marking the end of a chapter in our lives that is difficult to put into words. We will always carry with us the memories, stories, passions, and pieces of our mom that helped shape who we are.

We love you, Mom, and we hope "your soul and spirit flies into the mystic".

A private service was held by her children.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Patricia's honor to the either the ASPCA or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
