Nancy A. Hamel, 84, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Born in Syracuse, NY on October 30, 1936 to Edward and Matilda Hook. Nancy attended Syracuse City Schools and graduated from Central Technical High School in 1954.  She married Bernard Hamel and together they raised nine children.   She was predeceased by parents, Edward and Matilda, brothers, Peter Hook and Robert Hook and her husband, Bernie.  Nancy cherished her large family and thoroughly enjoyed family reunions and visits with her children out of state and even out of the country.

Nancy is survived by her nine children, Michael (Meredith) Hamel of Hollywood, FL, Thomas (Cynthia) Hamel of Syracuse, Theresa Hamel (Gerard) Athaide of Towson, MD, John Hamel, of Syracuse, James Hamel of Baldwinsville, NY, Brigitte Hamel of Ballston Spa, NY, Anne Marie (James) Porillo of Syracuse, Brendan Hamel of Atlanta, GA and Jennifer Hamel of Auburn, NY; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by countless friends in the PACE Community as well as the Obrien Road Senior Apartments in Baldwinsville.

Calling hours will be Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave, Syracuse, NY. Funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. Lucy's Church; burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
