Obituary

Mary Frances Walker was born in Syracuse, New York, to parents Mary (Scott) Cregg and Joseph Cregg.

She graduated from St. Vincent DePaul High School in Syracuse as a member of the Class of 1963. Mary worked for the Onondaga County Health Department as a Dental Hygienist and later for the Syracuse City School District in their in-school Audiology program.

Mary was very outgoing and enjoyed meeting new people and chatting with them about just about everything. Going to the mall was probably her favorite activity, where she could not only talk to new people but also buy new clothes for her grandchildren, her second favorite activity. Her bedroom closet often had three different sizes of the same piece of clothing for the children, just in case.

She had a very unique way about her and was often very funny without trying to be. She loved music, playing the piano and singing. The Irish Tenors were among her favorite performers, and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" was one of her favorite tunes.

Mary loved animals, especially her two poodles, Honey and Puffy. Going for coffee at Dunkin' Donuts or lunch at The Retreat were always high on her to-do list.

Her career working with children in the Syracuse City School District meant a lot to her. She loved helping kids who sometimes didn't get a lot of help elsewhere and took pride in being able to do that.

She had a very large extended family of siblings, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she cared greatly about and spoke of fondly often. Mary lived a full life with a lot of happiness and joy and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Joseph Cregg; her brother, Paul Cregg of Delaware; and her sister, Joan Dominic of Syracuse.

She is survived by her son, Greg Walker, and his wife, Emily Mocete-Walker, of Amherst, New York; her sister, Anne Dorgan of Syracuse, New York; her grandchildren, Adia and Esme Mocete-Walker of Amherst; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday June 26, 2026 at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Basilica, Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
