Obituary

Mary Ellen (Dwyer-Ott) Mahar, 89, a life-long resident of the Valley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 5, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years John A. Mahar in 2005. She was also predeceased by her mother Meme Dwyer-Ott, Holly and Parker Knapp and William and Margaret Dwyer.


Mary Ellen worked for many years at the Bell Telephone Company and Mass Mutual Insurance until the birth of her daughter, at which time she became a stay-at-home mom. She was an avid bowler and loved to play bingo. In her younger years she was a tremendous majorette baton twirler. She was a huge Syracuse Basketball and New York Yankee fan.


She enjoyed nights out at Wheeler's, Sherwood Inn, and winters in Florida with her husband (Coach), the Hayes', Bovas, Romanos, Zabinskis, Carloins, Conroys and Diamonds. She also enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friends Sally Drago and Dee Seeley.


She loved her cocker spaniels, Rusty, Duke, Tuffy, Sandy, Bailey, Shea and Ella Bella


She was devoted to her family and found great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Mahar (Charlie Eaton) of Moravia, NY and son, John P. Mahar (Joan) of Onondaga Hill. NY, grandchildren, Ashley Meigs (Josh Dana), Kayla Liszewski (Patrick), Jennifer Williams (Mitch) and Brittney Kardaras (Nicholas), great-grandchildren, Michael Robert, Nikolas John, Kaliope Athena, Piper Kay and Jackson Grant and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 12pm at St. Patrick's St. Brigid's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave.  Calling hours will be prior from 10am to 12pm at the church.  Burial will be in Onondaga County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
