Mary Linda Legere Hurley Gasser, 88 of Beaver, Pennsylvania died peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Linda was the middle child of Leon and Ethel (Pellikka) Legere, born on May 20, 1938, in Old Forge, New York. 

Linda was preceded in death by her first husband, James John Hurley, in 1968; parents, Leon and Ethel; brother, Leon Jr.; sister-in-law, Linda June (Cramer) Legere; and nephew, Leon Legere, III.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Gasser; her children, Michael Hurley, Lynn Hurley (Jill Rose), Thomas (Gayla) Hurley, Christine Hurley (Mike Broad), and Jennifer (Rob) Davies; younger sister Leslie (Phil) Felice; six grandchildren, Tyler Hurley, Jacob Davies, Luke Davies, Camryn Hurley, Ashley (Dave) Dutta, Brittany (Matt) Christensen; four great grandchildren, Sloane and Tallulah Christensen and Alexander and Arthur Dutta; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Linda grew up in Syracuse, NY. After graduating from North Syracuse High School, she worked as a secretary for General Electric. On May 24, 1958, Linda married James Hurley at St. Charles Catholic Church. They started a family immediately and by the time they moved to Rochester in 1966, they had four children. Linda spent her time devoted to her children and husband. James died after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer in 1968. After his death Linda and her children moved back to Syracuse to be close to family. 

Linda met John Gasser through a blind date, and they were married February 4, 1970, also at St. Charles Catholic Church in Syracuse. John shared his love of travel with Linda, and they started their marriage with a honeymoon in Caracas, Venezuela. In April 1971, Linda and John were blessed with another daughter to make their family complete. The family relocated to Beaver, Pennsylvania in 1972 for John’s work as an airline mechanic.

Linda was a long-time devoted member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Beaver. She had a passion for antiquing, and going to garage sales with her friends. She enjoyed various hobbies, cooking healthy foods for her family, and had a reputation for out-shopping her daughters on any given day. She was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a proud owner of a Terrible Towel. Linda was ready to watch the Steelers season opener Sunday afternoon when she passed away peacefully.

Her unwavering faith, deep love for God, and steadfast commitment to her family will leave a lasting impression on all of those who knew and loved her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend.

Linda’s life will be shared and celebrated on Tuesday, September 22nd at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Syracuse, with visitation starting at 10 a.m., and mass at 11 a.m. Burial follows at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt.
