Katharine "Katie" M. (Ziparo) Schoonmaker, 38, of Syracuse passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.  She was raised in Liverpool, NY and graduated from Liverpool High School and SU Magna Cum Laude. She attended Northeastern University Law School and was currently employed at PeopleSystems.

After college, Katharine lived in Santa Cruz, CA, living her West Coast dream and teaching in Watsonville, CA.  She loved being outdoors, camping, true crime, movies and cats.  She had a great sense of humor and lit up every room she was in.  She had a big heart and cared for everyone she met.

Katharine is survived by her husband, Steven, her mother, Ellen Lander, brothers, Dr. Matthew (Dr. Brielle Spataro) Lander and Thomas Ziparo, niece and nephews, Penny, Ethan and Nicholas, her best buddy, Charlie and her 3 life-long sisters: Erin, Katie and Liz.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 4 to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, SPCA or the Humane Association.
