John Richard DeMetro Sr. ,71, of Pompey passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He was born in Syracuse, NY, graduated from Corcoran HS and he obtained an Environmental Science Degree from Miami Dade CC.  John worked civil service jobs for the City, County and State including the Syracuse Water Department, NYS Thruway and eventually retired from Hancock Air Base.  He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.   John and his wife enjoyed attending concerts and vacationing together.  He was a passionate Miami Dolphins fan, certified personal trainer, enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle, vacationing in Myrtle Beach with his family and retirement life soaking up the sun in Florida.  He held positions as Pompey Town Councilman, Fire Dept. Commissioner and enjoyed supporting local politics, and volunteering at the Republican Headquarters.

He was predeceased by his father, John D. DeMetro, mother, Mary (Gigliotti) DeMetro.  He is survived by his wife, JoAnne (Perkins) DeMetro of 38 years, children, John (Christina) DeMetro Jr ,  daughter, Angela (John) Romancik, four beautiful grandchildren; John the third, Salvatore, Christian, and Giovanna, brother, Peter (Suzanne) DeMetro, sister, Patricia DeMetro, niece, Maria Kelly and nephew, Ricky Arcadi, and several sister and brother-in-laws.

Calling Hours will take place on Thursday June 8, 2023 from 1-3pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Belleuve Ave.  A religious service will be at 3pm. Burial will be private.
