Obituary

Helen Keefe, born April 4, 1926, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. A strong, devoted, and unforgettable woman, Helen lived a life centered on family, tradition, and unwavering values.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald C. Keefe Sr., in 1992; her parents, Katherine and Julian Dauksza; her brothers, Joseph, Edward, Walter, and Alexander Dauksza; her sisters, Genevieve Bouck, Stefka McNeil, Stella Elmore, Alice Bush, Hedwig Roberts, and Eleanor Davidson; her daughter, Linda Cerio; her son, Robert (Pam) Cerio; and her daughter, Hope Keefe Brown.

Helen was a remarkable mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence shaped generations.

She is survived by her children, Donald (Linda) Keefe, Laurie (Carlos) Keefe, and Margaret Daniels. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Amber, Jessica, Jason, Joey, Donald III (Andrea), Samantha (Melvin), Brian, Ariel, Michael, Austyn, Nikki Lynn, and Ashley J., along with grandchildren who lovingly called her “Grandma” — Neveah, Shanye, Emma, and Gazelle, her great-grandchildren, Mason, Zachary, Olivia, Aliciana, Pearl, Dre, Julian, and Jayce, were the light of her life. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families, as well as her cherished friends, Loulla Politis and Jean Dillo.

Helen was known for her generosity—no one ever left her home hungry. She found great joy in baking and often made homemade treats for her grandchildren’s school events. Her home was always open, especially during the holidays, when she loved nothing more than entertaining and bringing family together.

She was deeply involved in her grandchildren’s lives, whether it meant picking them up from school or caring for them on weekends. Helen was firm in her beliefs, and when she stood for something, there was never any doubt. She offered guidance freely, and as her children and grandchildren grew older, her wisdom became even more valued and meaningful.

Helen also loved shopping. In her earlier years, she enjoyed visiting the finest stores, and later found just as much joy searching for treasures at Goodwill. No matter the stage of her life, she embraced it fully and authentically.

Her legacy is one of strength, love, tradition, generosity, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Crouse Hospital, especially the compassionate caregivers on the 7th floor, for the kindness, comfort, and support they provided as Helen peacefully transitioned into her next life.
