Gerald (Jerry) Joseph Casey died peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by his friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Helen Casey, and brother, Daniel Casey. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Edean Casey, his daughter, Jennifer Casey, his sons, Ryan (Jamie) and Jered (Alice) Casey, grandchildren Lucas, Kollyns, Jonah, Arlo, Skyler, Alyssa, Addison, Aiden, Payton, and great grandchild Charlotte.

Jerry was born in Syracuse, NY on March 27, 1950, and grew up in Geneva, NY. He attended DeSales Highschool (’68) and then went on to Suny Brockport (’72). He married his wife of 49 years, Edean M. Casey, on August 6, 1977. Jerry played basketball and golf growing up, and spent his younger years enjoying life with his lifelong friends, many of whom were by his side at the end. He followed in his grandfather and fathers’ footsteps working at NY Tel/Nynex/Verizon, until he retired at the age of 53.

Jerry and Edean (wife) spent their retirement years traveling, golfing, wintering in Florida, and most importantly, being there for every major milestone as their kids started their own families. Jerry made sure that no matter what, he was involved in his kids’ lives and in his grandkid’s lives. He was always there, no matter the cost, no matter the inconvenience, all that mattered to Jerry was that his family knew he was there with them, and that he loved them unconditionally.

To know Jerry was to be his friend. His circle of friends was vast, stretching across every chapter of his life, and he showed up for each of them with the unwavering love and compassion that defined his character. Above all else, Jerry was the rock of his family. He and Edean built a home filled with endless love and happiness. As a father, he taught his three children what it meant to be loved, and how important it is to always be there for each other. To Jerry, traditions mattered, and those same traditions will live on in his memory. Later in life, he became “Beepa” and “Apa” to his 9 grandchildren and great grandchild, who he fiercely loved and adored, and would often brag about to his friends. Jerry would never come empty handed when visiting his grandkids, he always had a treat to give them and would always say “that’s what Beepa’s do,” with a loving grin.

Jerry was an avid golfer and shared the love of the game with his family. When he wasn’t with his family, or doing DIY projects around his house or his kids houses, he was at Tuscarora Golf Club, where he and Edean were members for over 30+ years. He and Edean built unbreakable friendships there, and the lifelong memories he created will live on. Even when he couldn’t get out and play as much, he made it clear to his family that “I will never not be a member at Tusc.” Jerry was also a passionate cook, but it wasn’t necessarily about the food itself, it was more about the act of serving those he loved. Jerry was lovingly known as a “food pusher,” often asking you more than once if you need a drink and if you want more food, and if you said no, he’d only ask more.

Jerry was also known to be a “thinker,” often being teased by his family for being “off in the cosmos,” when he would sit and think. He believed in the power of prayer, he thought deeply about life, his family, his friends, and especially, his kids. He’d often sit quietly and just think, with an ice-cold Manhattan close by.

Jerry lived a long and fulfilling life, but he also knew that life is fickle. He had a quote that he discovered on a gravestone many years ago, and he would often share it to put things into perspective. That quote read, “Stop my friends as you pass by, as you are, so once was I. As I am, soon you will be. Prepare my friends to follow me.” The lesson, to Jerry, was to love those around you, to always be there for friends and family no matter the circumstances, and to cherish every moment.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 10am at Holy Family Church, Fairmount.  Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 3 to 6pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, and because it is exactly what Jerry would have wanted, the family requests donations to Make A Wish of CNY, Vera House, or a charity of your choice. He would often say “we have much, we need to give more.”

Lastly, the family would like to thank the team and staff at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua NY, and the excellent care provided by Dr. Justin Weis and staff.
