Elizabeth Baker Matthews, 99, born in Azusa California, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital on May 20, 2024.  Betty moved to Syracuse when she married in 1945 and spent the rest of her life there.  She was retired from Solvay High School, where she had worked as a reading aide.  Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlework and crafts, and was a dedicated SU basketball fan.

Betty is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John Elliott Matthews, and by her son, David Paul Matthews.

She is survived by her children, Linda Jean O'Neill, John Elliott Matthews, and Elizabeth Ann Matthews, and by her grandchildren, Renee Leary Matthews, David de la Corte Matthews and Laura de la Corte Matthews.

In accordance with Betty's wishes, no services will be held, and there will be no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Beaver Lake or to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.
