Elizabeth "Biz"
McMahon
May 27, 1957 — Oct 9, 2026
Syracuse, NY
Elizabeth “Biz” Anne McMahon, 69, of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Biz was born on May 27, 1957, to Edmund Paul and Elizabeth (Marsh) McMahon. She attended Most Holy Rosary School, where she was also a lifelong parishioner. Biz graduated from SUNY Erie Community College in 1977 with a degree in dental hygiene. She began her career working alongside her father at his private dental practice and later continued at James Street Dental Arts, where she happily retired after 40 years of dedicated service.
Biz grew up at 204 Stolp Avenue as the second youngest of eight children. Her relationships with her siblings were sacred to her, and family was always at the center of her life. She found joy in making countless “nice blankies” for her favorite babies and, following in her mother’s footsteps as an avid gardener. Biz treasured her summers at Pleasant Lake, surrounded by her closest relatives. She loved savoring coffee on the porch while watching her hummingbirds and carrying on her father’s tradition of serving Bloody Mary’s at the annual Labor Day Pancake Breakfast.
Of all the roles she held throughout her life, Biz was most proud of being an aunt. She cherished each of her nieces and nephews and made it a priority to nurture every relationship. Her love, thoughtfulness, and devotion to her family created numerous memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Biz was predeceased by her loving parents, E.P. and Bette McMahon; her sister, Ellen Mahar; and her brother, Paul McMahon. She is survived by her siblings, Ann Marie Curtin, Margaret (Chuck) Rauch, Christine McMahon, Joseph McMahon, and Peter (Elizabeth) McMahon, and sister-in-law Louise (Paul) McMahon. She also leaves behind her 18 nieces and nephews, 38 great-nieces and great-nephews, and her newest great-grandniece, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Upstate Cancer Center, especially Dr. Stephen Graziano and Ibrahim Thabet, NP, with whom Biz developed a special bond throughout her seven years of treatment. The family is also deeply grateful to the many friends and relatives whose love, kindness, and unwavering support surrounded Biz and her family throughout her illness. A special thank you is extended to the compassionate staff and caregivers at Francis House, whose gentle care and kindness brought comfort to Biz in her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Most Holy Rosary Church. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Biz’s memory to Francis House or the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center.
