Edwin Antonio Rodriguez Colon, 76, of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Edwin was born on December 5, 1949, in Lares, Puerto Rico, to the late Rafael Rodriguez Colon and Maria Luisa Rodriguez. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Martha Clavijo-Rodriguez; his children, Edwin Antonio Rodriguez Jr. (Cynthia), Tina Maria Dillingham (Brandon), and Andrew Alexander Rodriguez (Ruth); his grandchildren, Adrianna, Antonio, Brielle, and soon-to-be-born Victoria; and his siblings, Carmen Maria Rodriguez Cordero, Jorge Luis Rodriguez Colon, and Neyda Rodriguez Colon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Rafael Junior Rodriguez Cordero; and his younger sister, Maria Dionisioa Rodriguez Colon.
Edwin was a man of deep faith, devoted to his family and to serving others. A faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, he played an active role in helping establish Syracuse’s first Spanish-speaking congregation, creating a place where others could worship and grow in their faith.
For more than three decades, Edwin served as a social worker with the Spanish Action League, dedicating his career to serving Hispanic and Latin American communities throughout Central New York. His work included helping individuals and families with housing, immigration services, legal and judicial support, access to community resources, and many other essential services. Through his compassion and commitment to others, Edwin helped countless families find the guidance, resources, and support they needed.
Above all, Edwin was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Martha and a caring father and grandfather. He and Martha loved simply being together, often spending their weekends taking nature walks, hiking, and admiring the beauty of God’s creation. His faith, compassion for others, and love for his family were at the heart of the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
A visitation will be held on September 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse. A Celebration of Life service will be held that evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Split Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church in Syracuse.
Edwin will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Edwin fue un hombre de profunda fe, dedicado a su familia y al servicio de los demás. Como fiel miembro de la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día, desempeñó un papel activo en el establecimiento de la primera congregación adventista de habla hispana en Syracuse, ayudando a crear un lugar donde otros pudieran adorar a Dios y crecer en su fe.
Durante más de tres décadas, Edwin se desempeñó como trabajador social en La Liga de Acción Hispana, dedicando su carrera a servir a las comunidades hispanas y latinoamericanas de toda la región central de Nueva York. Su labor incluyó ayudar a personas y familias con asuntos de vivienda, servicios de inmigración, orientación y apoyo legal y judicial, acceso a recursos comunitarios y muchos otros servicios esenciales. A través de su compasión y compromiso con los demás, Edwin ayudó a innumerables familias a encontrar la orientación, los recursos y el apoyo que necesitaban.
Por encima de todo, Edwin fue un esposo amoroso y dedicado a su esposa, Martha, y un padre y abuelo cariñoso. Edwin y Martha disfrutaban de la sencilla dicha de estar juntos y a menudo pasaban sus fines de semana caminando por la naturaleza, haciendo senderismo y admirando la belleza de la creación de Dios. Su fe, su compasión por los demás y el amor por su familia fueron el corazón de la vida que vivió y del legado que deja.
El velorio se llevará a cabo el 3 de septiembre de 2026, de 11:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m., en Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, seguido por el entierro en Oakwood Cemetery en Syracuse. Esa misma tarde se celebrará un Servicio de Celebración de Vida, de 6:00 a 8:00 p.m., en Split Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church en Syracuse.
