Obituary

Douglas Robert Ehlinger of Syracuse, New York passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Raised in Higganum, Connecticut, Doug was a longtime resident of Syracuse. He graduated from Boston College and then proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of Captain working as an air traffic controller.


After his retirement from a career in medical sales, he volunteered at Baltimore Woods Nature Center and at Upstate Community Hospital. Doug was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed spending time at his idyllic camp in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Above all, he cherished spending time with his beloved family, especially when gathered for their Sunday dinners.


Doug is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helen Ehlinger; his sister, Linda Chowdhry; and his grandson, Ryan Douglas MacCaull. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha (DelVecchio) Ehlinger; his children, Elizabeth (Patrick) Mahar, Amy (Scott) MacCaull, and Matthew (Emily) Ehlinger; his grandchildren, Liam and Owen Mahar, Kendra and Kyle MacCaull, Douglas and Arthur Ehlinger; his sisters, Dale Guthrie and Sandra Ehlinger and many nieces and nephews.


Calling hours are from 9:30am to 11:00am on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at St. Charles Church in Westvale. A memorial mass will commence at 11:00am. Private burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Warners.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Charles/St. Ann's Food Pantry.
