Obituary

G. Bryan Honold, April 6, 2021

G. Bryan Honold (age 70) joined his parents, brother, son, and the Lord in heaven on April 6, 2021.

Born September 21, 1950, Bryan grew up in Syracuse's Strathmore neighborhood and was a proud lifelong resident of Onondaga County. He attended Most Holy Rosary Grammar School, Westhill High School, and graduated from Cayuga Community College and Niagara University.

Bryan retired after working many years as a Court Attendant for Onondaga County, and as a long-standing volunteer fireman - also serving as fire police.

A devout Catholic, Bryan attended Most Holy Rosary and Saint Anne's in Syracuse throughout his life, where he sang in the choir and served as an usher.

Bryan was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Tom Dooley Irish Choraliers, and volunteered extensively at the Erie Canal Museum. Throughout his volunteerism, Bryan was formally honored for his multiple years of service in the Fire Departments, and in the Erie Canal Museum for trail maintenance and improvements.

A rabid SU basketball and football fan, Bryan also enjoyed bowling, cycling, and walking throughout Central New York's scenic trails.

Despite multiple health challenges throughout his lifetime, Bryan always maintained a zest for life, and was quick to smile, laugh, and help others.

Bryan is predeceased by his parents, Francis J. Honold Sr. and Lucille Ryan Honold; his brother, F. John Honold Jr.; and his son, Bryan Patrick Honold. He is survived by his brother, Dr. David Honold; his nephews, David "DJ" Honold Jr. and Robert "Bobby" Honold; his niece, Kathryn (Honold) Hardy; and his longtime best friend and companion, Claudia Mathis. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Tuesday, April 13 at Most Holy Rosary, with visitation from 9-10 am at church prior to mass. Burial will be in Saint Agnes Cemetery.
