Adam
Balcerzak
December 9, 1951 – January 28, 2024
In Loving Memory of Adam Balcerzak
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Adam Balcerzak, father, husband, and friend. Adam peacefully departed this world on Sunday, January 28th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, Polish pride, and unwavering love.
Adam was born on December 9, 1951 in the small town of Kutno, Poland to Stefan and Feliksa (Szeluga). He lived a life filled with adventures, traveling from Poland to Germany, and many other places before finally landing stateside in Chicago, and ultimately settling in Norwich, Connecticut. Though he had many careers throughout his life: semi truck driver, furniture maker, and commercial mushroom picker, he was most proud of his work with Plasser & Theurer track laying machinery on the Polish State Railroad (PKP). He touched the lives of many with his curiosity, quirkiness, and genuine compassion.
Through his determination and hard work, he paved the way for his family to emigrate to the United States. As a father, he was a constant source of knowledge and encouragement to Jakub and Michal, instilling in them values of hard work and how to fix a car (jumper cables and starting fluid were often integral to these lessons).
Adam is predeceased by his parents, wife Ewa (Kuczwara), and sister Halina. He is survived by sons Jakub (Kaye) and Michal (Karin), brothers Ryszard and Tadeusz, sister Jasia, and grandchildren Alana and Lochlan.
Adam's memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Certainly a character, he has left an impression on nearly everyone he's encountered throughout every facet of his life. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his legacy of love, kindness, and spirituality will endure.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 2 PM at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic, CT. In lieu of flowers, please visit and support your local library.
May he rest in eternal peace. Kochamy cie. Czesc Pan.
